At the Radio Amateurs of Northern Vermont club we know that many people study for and pass the test but then never get on the air. We'd like to help those folks.
We recognize that everyone is busy and that if a stumbling block comes up (for instance, how to get reasonable equipment at a reasonable price?) then a person naturally moves on to something else that needs doing, and somehow never get back to trying Amateur Radio.
One way we can help is by offering a leaflet that encourages new folks to use our club as a resource. We hand it out at test sessions, and offer it here as a download.
The leaflet encourages people who get to a stumbling block to contact an email address. The email will get routed to a club volunteer who shares the interest of the person seeking assistance. The volunteer mentor will then conatct the sender to see what can be done to regain some forward momentum. We hope this might help folks make their first steps and keep on moving.
The leaflet identifies some interests that people coming to the hobby often identify, gives a brief description of each, and notes for readers that there are people in the club who are knowledgeable about that, and who would be glad to be available as a help resource. Those interest areas are: Playing with technology, Public service and emergency communication, Long-distance communication (that is, HF), and Morse code.
You are welcome to a .zip file with the source of the leaflet. Note that the source is for use with the LaTeX typesetting system.
